Urban Planning for Community Change (UPC) is a Tanzania-based local non-profit research-for-development organisation established formally in January 2019 with the aim of transforming urban and rural development through rigorous evidence generation and use in bridging the gap between theory and practice in planning, execution, and practices of development initiatives in Tanzania.
UPC is registered under the Tanzanian Non-Governmental Organisations Act, No.24 of 2002 to operate in all the regions and districts of Tanzania Mainland with registration number: 00NGO/00010055
In carrying out its objectives, UPC aims at providing researched and innovative evidence-based solutions to urban and rural development and community challenges. In order to achieve that, our work currently focuses on the following core programmes:
Designing and implementing solutions to create vibrant, liveable communities that prioritize quality of life for all residents.
Harnessing data and analytics to inform effective urban policies and strategies for sustainable development.
Many poor cities and towns in Tanzania are unprepared and lack the capabilities to meet the challenges of rapid urbanisation.
This programme is set to design activities or events for influence, persuasion and encouragement to gain support with regards to a particular urban policy/ law or intervention
Urban growth unfolds rapidly in an unplanned and uncontrolled manner in many parts of the country, this is directly associated with increased urban health problems
Providing expert guidance and technical assistance to organizations, governments, and communities to tackle complex urban challenges.
